If you feel that discolouration of your teeth is spoiling your appearance, then tooth whitening may be the answer. A safe and non-invasive treatment, tooth whitening involves the application of a special gel to your teeth and this acts on the enamel to whiten your teeth. Two methods of whitening are offered at AllClear – home and in-surgery. In both cases, before undertaking whitening, you will be asked to attend a 30 minute consultation during which your teeth will be checked for suitability for whitening and the process & risks will be explained to you following which you will be asked to sign a consent form.
Home whitening
At the initial consultation, impressions of your teeth will be taken to enable whitening trays to be made. Approximately one week later, you will be asked to return to the practice for the fit of the trays to be checked and the whitening kit to be issued to you. You will be instructed how to use the kit and over the next two weeks you will use the trays & whitening gel for approximately half an hour per day. At the end of the two weeks you will be invited to return to the practice for the improvement in shade to be assessed. Before and after photographs will be taken to provide a permanent record of the outcome of the treatment.
In-surgery whitening
After the initial consultation, an appointment of approximately one hour will be made for you to return for the whitening treatment to be undertaken. During this appointment, your lips will be retracted (held away from your teeth) and a more powerful gel than that used in the home kits will be ‘painted on’, left for 10-15 minutes and then suctioned off. The process is repeated 2-3 times and, as with home whitening, before and after photographs are taken to provide a permanent record of the treatment. If you choose in-surgery whitening, we recommend that you also take a home kit to ‘top up’ the treatment and, if you take both together, the home kit will be supplied at half price. |
